The Anne Frank House is a museum in Amsterdam dedicated to the memory of Anne Frank, a German Jewish girl who hid from the Nazis during World War II.
The house preserves the secret annex where Anne and her family, along with four other Jewish individuals, lived in hiding from 1942 until their betrayal and capture by the Gestapo in 1944. It was here that Anne wrote her famous diary, which provides a poignant insight into her life and the horrors of the war.
The museum also includes exhibits about the Holocaust, aiming to educate visitors about the dangers of discrimination and the importance of human rights.

Dam Square

Dam Square, a historic and bustling town square in the heart of Amsterdam. Dam Square buzzes with activity. Street performers entertain, tourists snap photos, and trams glide past.  Originally, the Dam Square served as a 13th-century dam on the river Amstel. Ships would dock here to unload goods, and it was even used as a fish market. Over time, the square expanded in size and importance. Today, Dam Square is a vibrant hub connecting key streets like Damrak and Rokin. It’s a must-visit for tourists and locals alike.

Iconic Buildings

  • The National Monument, also known as the Nationaal Monument op de Dam, is a cenotaph erected in 1956. It stands tall on Dam Square, commemorating the Dutch soldiers and members of the resistance who lost their lives during World War II. During Napoleon’s reign, it transformed into an imperial palace. Its grandeur and historical significance draw visitors.
  • New Church (Nieuwe Kerk): Dating back to the 14th century (though rebuilt after a fire), this Gothic church now serves as an exhibition and ceremonial space.Magna Plaza: Just beyond the palace and church lies the beautiful Magna Plaza, once Amsterdam’s main post office. Now a high-end shopping mall, it offers fashion, jewelry, and a delightful food court.

The Jordan area

The Jordaan, once a working-class district, has transformed into a vibrant enclave. Its narrow streets wind like forgotten melodies, revealing hidden courtyards and cozy brown cafes. Here, authenticity reigns, and locals share their stories with a wink.

As you stroll along the Prinsengracht, the canals serenade you. Bridges arch gracefully, framing postcard-worthy views. The Jordaan’s facades wear colors like artists’ palettes—each hue a chapter in Amsterdam’s story. On Saturdays, the Lindengracht Market bursts forth. Sample cheese, fruits, and fresh fish. Let the scent of stroopwafels guide you—it’s a feast for the senses. And don’t miss the Noordermarkt, where organic delights beckon from stalls. The Jordaan wears its history lightly. The Westerkerk stands tall, offering panoramic views from its tower. Nearby, the Anne Frank House whispers of courage and resilience. Quirky museums dot the streets—a Tulip Museum here, a Houseboat Museum there. So, whether you’re savoring a stroopwafel, bargaining at the markets, or tracing the footsteps of Anne Frank, the Jordaan invites you.  Come, lose yourself in its winding alleys, and let the bohemian spirit carry you away.
